ASU athletes make SoCon Honor Roll

GREENVILLE, S.C. — One-hundred and seventy-one Appalachian State University student-athletes have been named to the Southern Conference’s Academic Honor Roll for the 2005-06 academic year as announced by the league office Friday, July 28. To earn a spot on the honor roll, a student-athlete must post a 3.0 or higher grade point average (GPA) and maintain full-time status during the academic year.
Representing Appalachian are student-athletes from all 20 sponsored sports with six student-athletes earning perfect 4.0 GPAs. Women’s tennis’ Mallory Cook, football’s Eric Elsener, softball’s Mary Lutz, track & field’s Hannah Parks, women’s basketball’s Natalie Thomas and volleyball’s Dianna Thomas recorded perfect marks in the classroom in 2005-06.
Overall, 1,436 SoCon student-athletes from 11 member institutions were named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 2005-06 academic year. The average GPA of the 1,436 student-athletes was 3.44. Forty percent of the honor roll achieved a 3.5 grade point average. Fifty-seven student-athletes posted a 4.0.
